Ebola from Emergency to Recovery

Since the beginning of 2014, West Africa has been facing the worst Ebola outbreak ever. From the outset, the international community, including the European Union, has mobilised humanitarian, political, scientific and financial resources to help fight the disease. The EU and its Members States have pledged over 1.2 billion Euros to help the worst hit countries eradicate Ebola and pave the way to sustainable recovery. Together with its international partners, the EU will stand by the affected countries in their efforts to get back on their development path and to allow people to enjoy a better life. This video tells us where we stand today and highlights the key challenges, through testimonials from people living and working in the affected region, as it moves from emergency to recovery. The video was first shown at the EU-organised High-Level Ebola Conference held in Brussels on 3 March 2015. The conference, co-chaired by the three most affected countries: Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Liberia, brought together 80 delegations to discuss the ongoing emergency and recovery situation in West Africa. It’s main themes were: 1. Sustaining the current Ebola response and preventing the spread of the virus. 2. Identifying short-term actions to remedy the immediate consequences of the epidemic. 3.
