"It is simply not true to say that the European Parliament has no powers. Its powers are at least equal to those of a national parliament," said European Commissioner Michel Barnier in a Citizens' Dialogue with 550 citizens in the Docks de Paris in St. Denis. The debate, which he held together with the French Minister Delegate for European Affairs Thierry Repentin on 27 February, focused on the question of how citizens in France and Europe can make their voice heard effectively -- with Commissioner Barnier stressing among others the importance of the upcoming European Parliament elections.
