BIG TEXAS RIVER MONSTER

It’s called an Alligator Gar fish. It’s considered the largest freshwater fish in North America and this carnivorous beast has a set of teeth that look like something out of a horror movie!
To get a real look at one of these monsters, I’ve come to the Southern United States and hooked up with Kirk Kirkland, the best guide there is to catch Alligator Gar.
According to Kirk, Alligator Gar have been around on this planet for more thae 100 million years. They can breathe both air and water. They can grow up to about 10 feet long (3 Meters) and weigh as much as 300 lb (140 kg). They can live up to 90 years.
Alligator Gar, like the Arapaima from South America, are known for their armor like scales. The scales are so strong, Indians who lived in the area used to use them for arrow heads.

Traveling with Kirk, is avid fisherman Lawrence King who traveled a long way just so he could catch a gar. I asked him how they go about catching garfish.
King said, "They roll, come up for a breath. Once we see that we them do that, we stop and drop a line to see if we can catch one."
A few hours later, Kirk and King had a gar on the line, but not on the hook. Lawrence and Kirk have to be careful not to lose the fish so they just follow it for awhile.
You see what happens is the Gar uses it’s teeth to impale the prey with those big teeth and then what they do is just kind of hold the prey there until they are ready to eat it.
Now what this means for Lawrence is the hook is not set and if the gar swims under a tree branches, then he’ll have to make his rod do the same thing!
The fish swims toward a clump of trees so Kirk decides it’s time to go for the catch.
At last, The fish is on the hook and they real it in for a close up look inside the boat. Kirk points out some interesting features of the fish, like the amazing teeth and the air breathing holes on the front of it's snout. They then release the alligator gar back into the river and it swims away unharmed.
