GST Plans drives Great Anti-Rally
Thousands of protestors gathered in the heart of Kuala Lumpur on labour day (May 1st, 2014) as a show of solidarity against the plans to implement Goods and Services Tax (GST) by the government.
Signs of the rally started at 8am morning, with crowds beginning to gather in multiple areas across the city, among which includes KLCC, Sogo, Dataran Maybank and Jalan Raja Laut. Around noon, the gathered groups began to march towards the rallying point, Dataran Merdeka
Estimates by various media of the number of participants in the protest range from 15,000 to 50,000. Other than a few minor scuffles, the rally proceeded and ended peacefully.
