The Cadillac ATS V.R GT3 Racecar was recently unveiled at the LA Auto Show. The racecar is used as a platform to validate the performance of the streetcar. Program Manager David Caldwell from Cadillac Racing was on-hand to give us some insights into the new ATS GT3 car. The purpose of these race cars is three-fold:
1) Prove the performance credentials of the V-Series line of cars
2) To engage the fans and customers of V-Series vehicles
3) To develop engineers and technology for the street cars
The foundation of the racecar starts with the ATS production car. The car is then built around the specifications outlined in the GT3 rulebook. The body is removed and a safety cage is welded into the car. Extensive modifications are then done to the suspension, powertrain, and drive-line.
