Way back in the mid 1980's Dodge started working with Cummins on an idea: to put a large displacement and very powerful diesel engine inside a pickup truck. The end result was this prototype you see here. The 1985 Dodge RAM 350 is a 1-ton truck with a 5.9 liter 6BT inline-6 cylinder Cummins Turbo Diesel Engine. Well fast forward 25 years and RAM trucks are once again equipped with a 3.0 liter V-6 that can be found on the 1500-series of truck. Back in the day the 5.9 liter put out 400 lb-ft. of torque vs the current 3.0 liter that makes 420 lb-ft. of torque. So this new engine is half the size and makes more torque which gives you an idea just how far diesel technology has come in the past 25 years.See More Car Videoshttp://www.autobytel.com/car-videos/Join Our Facebook Pagehttp://www.facebook.com/autobytel
