SUMMARY:
- The Republic of Mal di Ventre, like a lot of the others on this list, is a micronation. The island is only 1.2 miles long and 0.5 miles wide, and it boasts some amazing Roman ruins.
- In 1996, a group of Lithuanian artists founded the Center for Alternative Art in a neighborhood of the capital city Vilnius. A year later, the residents of the district proclaimed the Republic of Užupis.
- Would you like to become a citizen of the Conch Republic? All you have to do is buy a passport! Only, you’ll probably have to pay for it in sand dollars, the country’s official currency.
- The micronation of Ladonia is located on the territory of the Kullaberg Nature Reserve in southern Sweden. Its independence was proclaimed in June 1996 by artist Lars Wilks.
- The creation of Asgardia was first announced in October 2016 by Russian scientist and businessman Igor Ashurbeyli. It’s floating in space on the Asgardia-1 satellite, which was launched at the end of 2017.
