One mother-in-law tried to get her son to stop his pregnant wife from getting an epidural citing that she should be “able to take the pain” and blamed their older daughter’s behavioral issues on the mom’s first epidural. Is there any truth to the mother-in-law’s claims that an epidural might lead to behavioral issues? Anesthesiologist Dr. Edna Ma shares that there is no scientific evidence to support this and over 70% of women are choosing to have epidurals during birth. Dr. Ma shares epidurals do not cause behavioral problems, mental problems or neurocognitive delays in newborns.
