Why do we find certain things cute? Human and animal babies, including kittens, puppies, bunnies, and any small animals like hamsters and hedgehogs, cartoon characters with huge eyes, and even miniature inanimate objects – what do all these things have in common? That’s right, they make us go “Aww!” But why exactly do we find these childlike things and creatures so darn cute, while others don’t touch our hearts? And why this “cuteness blackout” strikes us out of nowhere?

- The smaller and softer the nose, the better. It might even look like it’s not fully-developed, which only makes it seem that much cuter.
- We also like tiny adorable things because they sort of feed our ego, making us feel big and powerful compared to them.
- Sometimes things or even living creatures look so cute that you just feel like you could eat them up. If that sounds familiar to you, don’t be alarmed – it’s a perfectly normal human reaction, and it doesn’t make you some aggressive beast.
- If you think it’s only humans that perceive something as truly adorable, you’d be mistaken. Elephants, who have brains with a similar connectivity to humans, are capable of just the same!
