Hip Hop has always been plagued with tragedy. Many of rap's greatest innovators and heroes are dead, often to homicide or drug overdose. The rappers profiled here are no exception. Though rappers like Eazy-E lost their lives to disease, most of the rest fell victim to violence or succumbed to addiction, much like many of the foundational performers in rock music during the same time period. In all cases, these writers, recording artists, live performers, and (often) actors are remembered by fans today, who keep their memory and music alive to influence new generations within the art form.
