What's the difference: White Rhino and Black Rhino? One differentiating characteristic between black rhinos and white rhinos is the shape of their upper lip. The black rhino has a pointed upper lip, while the white rhino has a square-shaped lip. White rhinos are primarily grazers and eat grass, while black rhinos use their prehensile lip to pluck branches and leaves from plants. Today, less than 30,000 rhinos walk the earth. Of those, only 2 female northern white rhinos remain.
