On that Monday, John Lennon and his wife, Yoko Ono, were returning to their apartment in Manhattan when Mark David Chapman, a 25-year-old Beatles fan from Honolulu, shot Lennon four times at close range. The musician was pronounced dead on arrival at Roosevelt Hospital.
