Nowruz is the name of the Iranian (Persian) New Year and marks the First day of Spring. It has been celeberated for more than 3000 years.

Nowruz consists of two words: Now ( "New") and Ruz ( "Day"), meaning a New Day has begun.

Couple of Days Before Nowruz, Iranians lay their Haft Sin table:
Haft Sin (The Seven "S") table is the most prominent symbol of Nowruz. Seven items that start with letter "S" in Farsi are placed on the Haft Sin Table (hence, the name "The Seven S"). Each item represents an important symbol of life.

Nowruz lasts for 12 days. Iranians regard the 13th day as a bad luck day. In order to avoid the bad luck associated with the number 13, they go outdoors for picnics. This day is called "Sizdah Bedar" (passing the 13th day).
