Hey guys, Bill here. With more than 90% of the world’s oceans unexplored, we all know there are some really strange creature out there. But this one is probably as weird as it gets.
The video goes by the name of "Weird Exploding Sea Creature" and it was sent in by Mark Paccone, 99 Strikes, and Boxxy Trolley, Thomas Revels, Shawn Ratsinger, SSgame just to name a few.
The video shows a group of Japanese guys fishing at the ocean. At one point they spot these strange looking creatures hanging on to the rocks. The creatures scatter when the men approach to investigate, but they do manage to find one alone.
The men poke at it, turn it over, even pour Coca Cola on it. But before they can figure out what it is, it vomits some kind of fluid on the men, and then explodes.
Now as you can imagine, the thing that everyone wants to know about this is - and do I need to say it? Is this video Real? Or is some kind of Japanese horror movie Fake?
Why don’t we poke around and see what we can find out.
INVESTIGATION REPORT
As I started looking around, I quickly realized this was not going to be easy. All my usual sources such as snopes, hoax busters, and even Hoax Slayer had absolutely no data at all on this odd little video.
I turned my attention to the multiple copies of this thing posted on Youtube, but didn’t get very far with that either. It just all turned into Japanese after a while and even Google translate couldn’t figure out what they were talking about in the comments.
I even posted it on my Facebook too see anyone recognized the creature - There were a few suggestions - like possible sea pig slug, but nothing I could pin down for sure.
Man, this thing was frustrating. I was almost ready to give up when I remembered - when the going gets tough here at billschannel, the tough just turn to the “A” team for some help.
In this case, Brant Reiter, an American who has spent many years working in Japanese media…
BRANT: Tthis video comes from a collection of videos in Japan that was released as a DVD called Ura Horror. Ura in Japanese means Hidden or secret. But it is presented as horror stories from real life.
Thanks to Brant, who speaks Japanese, we were able to track down the whole series and found the full length version of the video. In this version it is introduced by a young girl who is disguised.
BRANT: I can’t really get it all because her voice is disguised… but she says the video was recorded by a relative of hers who later died in a car accident. They tried to take the tape to a bunch of TV stations, but no one would broadcast it.
OK, well, that’s a lot of information but thanks to all my friends on Facebook and Brant I do have the answer here. But first, let’s recap what we know.
The video comes from a collection of so called, secret, or untold horror stories.
But the creators of the video claim what they recorded comes from real life.
On the other hand, I couldn’t find anyone who recognized the creature or could name it.
But then again, Over 90% of our oceans are unexplored and it could be something new.
Now based on everything I have been able to gather, I’m judging the Exploding sea creature video… A fake.
First off, I don’t think there is any creature that vomits on people like that. It doesn’t make any sense biologically.
And secondly, as Terry Woolhead pointed out on facebook - When they flip the creature over, there are no ligaments or any structures that would give it the ability to move as quickly as it does in the earlier scene.
And finally, if you watch the explosion at the end, it is clearly computer generated.
My thanks to all the people who sent this in and to Brant for helping us out… and remember, if you have a picture or video and you’re not quite sure if it is real or not… send it to me at [email protected]
See you next time.
