The UN World Food Programme is warning of an escalating humanitarian crisis in Burkino Faso. They say the situation is being driven by extremist violence. The number of attacks in the country has increased significantly this year with the number of civilian deaths already four times the total recorded in 2018. Since 2015, the military has battled Islamic militants trying to take over mineral rich northern Burkina Faso.
