Have you heard about CETA and TTIP? They are trade deals that the EU is keen to sign with global partners, like Canada and the US. Lately there has been a lot of talk about transparency and criticism on how trade deals are made.
So why does the EU do these trade deals and how do the negotiations work? Is everything taking place behind closed doors? Find out from this video explaining the process!

EU Member States have the first and last word in Trade deals in the EU. The European Commission receives the mandate from EU member States to negotiate and it reports to them and to the European Parliament before and after every negotiation round. When the Trade agreement is reached, Member States (through the Council of the EU) and the European Parliament have the final say: they can either approve or reject the deal.
