Take a tour of Almudena Cathedral in Madrid, Spain -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.

The Almudena Cathedral in Madrid is a church with nearly 500 years in the making.

In 1561, Madrid became Spain's capital and King Philip the second decided that the city needed a cathedral.

Construction was delayed repeatedly for hundreds of years until it was finally started in 1879.

The church shaped up beautifully, but painfully slowly, and was only finished in 1993.

The interior is styled in Neo-Gothic and unlike any other cathedral in the world.

Though the Almudena Cathedral took so long to finish, the result is well worth the wait.
