When John Candy was just 5 years old and his brother, Jim, was 6, Sidney Candy unexpectedly died from complications of heart disease at only 35.

She took her two young kids to a very small bungalow in the working-class Toronto borough of East York, which they shared with John Candy's grandparents and aunt.
