Hey guys Bill here. There are some pretty big fish out there in the world but what are the biggest of the big that have been landed by anglers. ? I asked Billschannel Jr Reporter Olivia Bee to find out for us.
OLIVIA:
Thanks Bill, when it comes to fishing you know there are a lot of tall tales out there, but looking through some official records and a lot of newspaper clippings, I’ve been able to nail down the top 5 fish ever caught by weight.
Number 5-
BLUEFIN TUNA
On October 26, 1979, Ken Fraser caught a 1,496-pound bluefin tuna. He caught the fish in Aulds Cove off Nova Scotia, Canada, using a mackerel. Ken wrote a book about his catch and it has sold in 38 countries and counting.
Number 4
BLACK MARLIN
Alfred Glassell Jr. caught the all-tackle record black marlin off of Cabo Blanco, Peru, on August 4, 1969. The fish weighed a whopping 1,560 pounds and was caught using a mackerel as bait.
Number 3
GREENLAND SHARK
On October 18, 1987, Terje Nordvedt caught the largest Greenland shark ever off Norway, using a herring as bait. The shark weighed 1,708 pounds and 9 ounces. Unfortunately, Terje didn’t write a book about his record catch.
Number 2
TIGER SHARK
On March 4, 2004, Kevin Clapson caught the current, all-tackle world record tiger shark. The giant, 1,785-pound shark was caught off Ulladulla, Australia.
Number 1
WHITE SHARK
The biggest fish ever caught and approved as an International Game Fish Association world record was a great white shark. The giant fish weighed 2,664 pounds! Alfred Dean caught the shark off Ceduna, Australia, on April 21,1959...
OLIVIA: Bill, I’m sure there are some unrecorded giants that have been caught, but this is the official, confirmed list.
BILL: Now those sound like some pretty big fish, but have there any reports of anybody catching a Megalodon?
OLIVIA: As far as I can tell, there have been no reliable reports of anyone catching a Megalodon. If I come across anything firm in that department, I promise I’ll let you know.
Bill: Thanks Olivia… That would be awesome if someone actually caught a Megalodon, but I’m not holding my breath.
Okay, well that's all the time what have for this video. I was to thank Olivia for that great report and if you think you have a great 'Bills top 5' send it to me at [email protected]!
