Therapy dog Fernie has been helping kids to read by showing them that he can also read! In this episode from Dogs with Extraordinary Jobs series, we meet the teacher’s pet Fernie and his human partner, headteacher Nick Gardner as they help elementary school children with their reading and confidence in class. Fernie is one of 13 canine teaching assistants in the UK put their listening skills to good use. But what’s even more remarkable is that Fernie has learned to read. He helps encourage Nick’s young students to learn by showing them that even a Labrador can learn and read new words. All around the world, we form extraordinary partnerships with dogs.
