The TOEFL® Essentials test is a new version of the TOEFL, which will be available for registration in May, and administration in August 2021. According to ETS, this will be a faster, cheaper, and more convenient way for students and institutions to measure their English proficiency.

According to ETS, “The TOEFL® Essentials™ test complements the other TOEFL® tests in your portfolio, expanding your program’s range of applicants and offering you another testing option with all of the quality, validity, reliability and security you expect from a TOEFL test. Registration is expected to open in May 2021, with the first tests to be administered by August 2021.”
