How complicated can beer really be? It turns out, very. As a Ph.D. student in Brewing and Fermentation Science Katy Benson describes the science behind a perfect brew. And how in a surprising twist, beer is similar to yoga.

Katy is a Colorado native who moved to Davis in 2012 to pursue a Masters degree in Food Science, with specialty in Brewing & Fermentation Sciences. She studied Biochemistry and Spanish in her undergraduate degree and fell in love with beer culture one sunny spring afternoon of her senior year. When she found out she could combine both her love of metabolic processes and passion for beer, the rest was history. When not researching the next cool thing in beer and brewing, she can be found teaching yoga or working on her handstands
