At first glance you would think this video is about some Papau New Guinee tribe. In fact it is right here in Malaysia, just off the coast of Klang on Carey Island, along the Straits of Malacca. The Mah Meri is amongst the 18 indigenous tribes in Peninsular Malaysia and they now reside in a settlement on the island. This video is an extended version of the one found in this channel and it shows the entire ceremonial proceedings of appeasing the spirits and ancestors (Puja Moyang and Puja Pantai) of a folk legend about their ancestors being saved by the spirits of the sea. The ritual starts the night before with prayers at their ancestors altar in their homes. The next day the villagers set upon a ritual of dance, music and prayers led by shamans and await the low tide before they proceed to the grand altar left standing on the far shores. Here the shamans perform prayers and offerings to their ancestors and the sea spirits. At the end of the rituals the villagers share their food amongst themselves. This tribal ritual attracts both locals and foreigners every year. Manaweblife is honoured to be there to witness the event and glad to put all these images on record for all to see. There seems to be more interest from foreigners than Malaysians when it comes to traditional tribal rituals like this.
Therefore, Manaweblife urges you to share, and like, this video amongst fellow Malaysians, and subscribe for more exciting videos in this channel ! May the tribal ritual live on!
