Libraries have never been about the form of the collection. Libraries are always about being the shoulders of the giants we stand upon; about being the castle where we keep our history and protect our past; about being a safe place for experimentation and exploration; about being an institution to help us learn and produce throughout our lives. Even as librarians become masters at collecting, cataloging, managing, preserving, and storing digital materials, it's important for all of us to remember that libraries were never about the format of the collection.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
