Singapore is a haven for long tailed macaques. Close-knit families live all over the island and many have adapted to the urban world right on their doorstep. In the Northwest of the country, Matanoor - an unusually fluffy alpha male--rules over a family of over 30 macaques called the Street Troop. Their home straddles the best of both worlds – the forest and the edge of the city – where gardens serve up an almost never-ending buffet. Matanoor runs a tight ship – each monkey in his family knows their place. Below him are three Henchmen – they help him fight off any intruders if they dare challenge him. Next in line are the Sisterhood – high ranked females who soak up a life of privilege. For the lower ranked females such as Sara, life is not as easy. She gets less access to good food, less protection from predators and less attention from the higher ranked. And Sara could do with a bit of attention especially as she is heavily pregnant and due any day. The Street Troop’s closest monkey neighbors are the Hill Troop . They live a much wilder lifestyle in the forest. They’re led by another old alpha, Aarav, who bears the scars of battles fought and won. He’s flanked by two aging Henchmen and Judith, an elderly matriarch female who has seen many alphas come and go in her lifetime. Loci, a young male from another part of the island, arrives onto the edge of these two troops territories. Like all young males he is keen to carve out his own destiny and Loci has big aspirations - he wants to claim a territory and with it a troop to call his own. But first Loci must figure out which alpha to challenge – Matnoor or Aarav?
