http://www.autobytel.com/?id=32972 Steve McQueen is an icon, both on-screen and behind the wheel, whatever he did became the standard for cool. Steve loved his cars and would use them to their fullest. One of his favorite automakers both on-track and on the street was Porsche. Steve raced Porsche prototypes as well as 911s in some of the most grueling endurance races known to man. Perhaps it was after filming with the 917 in Le Mans, or winning Sebring with his 908, one of the last cars he kept was a customized 1976 Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera.

The slate gray rear engine sports car wears Mr. McQueen’s preferred shade of battleship gray, and was upgraded with a set of 8 and 9-inch wide Fuchs wheels, up from the 7s and 8s. On the inside, the 930 Turbo also got a trick taillight switch, that would cut all power to the bulbs so that he could not be chased when making his signature Banzai runs down Mulholland Drive.

The McQueen 930 Turbo will be heading to auction in the near future, with all proceeds set to benefit the Boys Republic, a place for wayward youths that actually had a big impact on the life of the late film star. The 1976 930 will be for sale at the upcoming Mecum Daytime auction in Monterey, during classic car week.
