The snakes of Australia are as diverse and striking as the landscape they inhabit; there are more than 300 different species here, some harmless to humans, others deadly. From the Death Adder which has a strike almost quicker than the human eye, to the Scrub Python which is equipped to track its prey, snakes know how to survive in this inhospitable land. They are ectotherms, using the warmth of the sun to regulate their internal body temperature. And there’s one prey that many of the snakes love – their fellow reptiles, the Lizards. So the Lizards have come up with their own ways of outwitting their Snake predators: from the Blue Tongued Skink which relies on bluff, to the Leaf Tailed Gecko which uses a cunning disguise and can even detach its tail to escape a hungry predator.
