Human rights organizations estimate some 700 infants in Turkey are imprisoned with their mothers - with many of the mothers thought to be behind bars on political grounds. The children spend most days inside the prisons with their mothers, but are generally released for a couple of days per week. One imprisoned infant is two-year-old Miraz. His mother, a Kurdish activist, was sentenced to a four-year prison term on charges involving "terrorist propaganda." Together with his mother, he lives with twelve other women in a cell. He's only sent beyond its confines on the weekend to spend time with his father or to visit his grandparents.
