Sarah Hillware is an outspoken advocate for young women's health and women's empowerment. She recently completed her year as America's Miss District of Columbia 2012 and has dedicated her life to empowering female youth around the world through health education and health access.

Sarah has been recognized for her academic, personal and professional achievements. She received the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Award during her time at The George Washington University, and she has also been featured as a spoken word artist at the 5th Annual Activist Award & Grassroots Gala in Washington, DC. She has received nominations for "The YSA List: The 25 Most Powerful and Influential Young People," the 2011 "Under 25 Glamour Magazine Woman of the Year," the 2013 40 Under 40 Awards, and IntheCapital's 50 on Fire Awards. Most recently, she was named one of GenYNot's Top 10 Young Global Girl Leaders Celebrating International Day of the Girl.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
