Many would have tried and are familiar with roti canai, a truly Malaysian favourite taken during breakfast, and sometimes available any time. Usually available at typical Indian Muslim coffee shops or 'mamak stalls', this bread dough serving is heated on a hot plate and acrobatically flung in the air to achieve a bit of culinary drama. There's another form of roti that is often associated as a variant of this popular roti canai and it is called roti boom or literally boom bread. The origins of the name is unknown, probably coined as a gimmick to attract customers. It is made from the same dough as roti canai.  In appearance roti boom is more compact, dough wound rounded, yet fluffy inside and has margarine added. It seems roti boom is a Malay origin, as compared to roti canai which is Indian Muslim in origin and has sugar added. Whatever the historical background, there is no doubt that both are must try and capture the appetite of every Malaysian any time ! This Kajang market stall in this video also sells the meaty 'square' shaped  murtabak  and a unique middle eastern roti curry.
