Given the place of large classes in today's universities, understanding how they can be best delivered is critically important for the student experience, for learning and, ultimately, for the future of universities themselves. The development of positive relationships between instructor and students through the professor's verbal and nonverbal communication, or teacher immediacy, plays a major role in the develop of a successful learning environment. This talk will provide insights into the verbal and nonverbal behaviors of professors who excel in the large class, as well as their use of technology, in building teacher immediacy.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
