This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Andy Hall, co-founder of Southern Arizona Against Slavery and law student at the University of Arizona presents human trafficking statistics, dispels prostitution myths, and offers a proposal to remedy this global issue.

Andy Hall is a co-founder of Southern Arizona Against Slavery, a small local nonprofit fighting human trafficking. After creating an interdisciplinary undergraduate major about modern-day slavery, he began a JD program at the University of Arizona College of Law, where he is focusing on anti-trafficking law and policy. He has assisted survivors of human trafficking with legal matters ranging from immigration assistance to expungement of the wrongful prostitution convictions of sex trafficking victims. He has also been involved with an innovative Tucson program that equips prostituted people with holistic resources to empower them to exit prostitution, in sharp contrast to traditional prostitution enforcement. After graduation, Andy hopes to work for a nonprofit organization that provides comprehensive legal services to survivors of sex trafficking and labor trafficking. He is happily married to Chelsea.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
