Dr. Rushkoff is a world-renowned media theorist whose 12 books, including Present Shock, Life Inc, and Programmed or Be Programmed, have been translated to over 30 languages. As a young colleague of Timothy Leary and Robert Anton Wilson, Dr. Rushkoff was among the first to recognize and write about the emergence of peer-to-peer, decentralized networking and culture, and then the first to apply the insights of the digital and open source communities to fields such as religion, democracy, and economics.

Rushkoff has spoken in venues from the United Nations to the MacTaggart Lecture in Edinburgh, on television from The Colbert Report to Larry King Live, and made three documentaries for PBS Frontline, including Merchants of Cool and The Persuaders.

Rushkoff won the Media Ecology Association's prestigious McLuhan Award for media writing, as well as the Neil Postman Award for Career Achievement in Public Intellectual Activity. He is also a digital literacy advocate for the online learning platform, Codecademy.com.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
