Placebo Surgery Proves Shoulder Procedure Unnecessary?

You’ve likely heard of a placebo pill, but what about a placebo surgery? Patients go under the knife, and wake up with stitches but no actual surgery has taken place. Professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of Oxford Dr. Andrew Carr spearheaded a placebo surgery to test the effectiveness of a common shoulder surgery, and he found that this surgery was largely unnecessary. So why is it still being performed regularly in the United States?
