ONLY vs JUST: What’s the Difference between Just and Only

I hope this English lesson is JUST what you’ve been looking for. It’ll ONLY take a few minutes to learn the differences between just and only. Only and Just can sometimes be used the same way, but there are also situations where they cannot be used interchangeably. In today’s English lesson you’re going to learn the differences between the commonly confused English words Just and Only. You will learn when and how to use each word correctly to improve your English fluency.

How to use Only or Just:
Only and Just can both be used to mean scarcely or hardly. The slight difference when using only and just the same way is that only is a bit more formal and just is a bit more casual.
Ex: I only have $20 or I just have $20.

How to use Just:
Just can mean recently, or a moment ago.
Ex: I just got home. She just left.
Just can also mean barely or very close.
Ex: I live just north of the subway station. The park is just next to the school.
Just also means simply or to simply tell the truth. It’s often used this way to express something negative.
Ex: Unfortunately, she just doesn’t have enough talent to become a famous ballerina.

How to use Only:
Only is used to refer to something being singular, unique, and specific.
Ex: Jennifer is an only child. My heart belongs only to my husband.

Just とOnly の違いを学ぶのに数分しかかかりません。 OnlyとJustは同じように使用できる場合もありますが、互いに取り替えて使用できない場合もあります。今日の英語の授業では、よく混同される英単語JustとOnlyの違いを学びます。英語の流暢さを向上させるために、各単語をいつどのように正しく使用するかを学びます。

Only又Justの使い方
OnlyとJustは両方とも、ほとんど…ないまたは少しも….ないという意味で使用することができます。ONLYとJUSTを同じように使用する場合のわずかな違いは、ONLYは若干フォーマルで、JUSTは若干カジュアルであるということです。

Justの使い方:
Justは、最近、または少し前を意味する場合があります。
Justは、また、かろうじてまたは非常に近いことを意味する場合があります。
Just はまた、単にまたは単に真実を伝えることを意味しネガティブなことを表現するためによく使われます。

Onlyの使い方:
Onlyは、特異で、ユニークで、具体的なものを指すために使用されます。
