Hey Guys Bill Here... You know people for years have been saying the great age of discovering new animals is over... we've found it all... Well hold on there folks because a new type of giant Amazonian fish has been discovered in Brazil recently...
Researchers working in the Amazon region of Brazil have discovered a new species of the famous Arapaima fish.
Now the Arapaima has been around for a long time. It's an air breathing fish that ranges between six and seven feet. They weigh up to 220 pounds.
This new member of the Arapaima family is bigger. It can grow to almost 10 feet and weigh up to 440 pounds. It marks the first discovery of a new species of Arapaima since 1847....
Now the funny thing about this is that discovery wasn't made in the wild. Rather, it came about when a scientist named Donald Stewart, was visiting a research facility in manaus Brazil.
During his research, Stewart came across the specimen of the new fish that had been caught by a collector and brought to the facility in 2001. Up to this point everyone thought it was just a regular Arapaima. But when Dr. Stewart took a closer look he realized it was something entirely new..
So you see, you never can say never when it comes to finding something new.
