This quick how-to video is dedicated to the guy I was behind in line at the grocery store, who was buying a small jar of steak rub for like $5. I sure hope he sees this video. Making your own spice rub takes seconds, and costs a fraction of the price. Enjoy!

Chef John’s All-Purpose Steak Rub & Barbecue Dry Rub
Makes about 1/2 cup of Steak Rub or 3/4 cup Barbecue Rub
1/4 cup kosher salt
2 teaspoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
2 teaspoons smoked paprika
1 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground dried thyme
1 teaspoon ground dried rosemary
1/4 cup brown sugar, optional if making for a barbecue rub
