We came from half away around the world. We traveled deep into the mountains of Uganda. Our mission was simple - a close up and personal encounters with the wild Mountain Gorillas of East Africa.
A check up on how they are doing.

It was a group of five Gorillas moving through the area where we stood.
They say Gorillas and Humans are very close, Genetically speaking. Scientists estimate 95 to 98% of our genetic DNA is the same.

Male Gorillas can grow up to 1.8 m ( 5.9 ft) tall and weigh up to 113 kg 249 lb. They live about 35 to 40 years in the wild.

Their range of the Eastern Mountain Gorillas in the Virunga Mountains crosses three countries… Uganda, Rwanda & Democratic Republic of Congo.
While Uganda and Rwanda have moved aggressively to protect their Gorillas, Congo remains too unstable to provide effective protection. As a result many Gorillas continue to be killed there.
It is estimated that there are less than 1000 wild mountain gorillas alive today in the whole world. Their numbers are slowly increasing, but they remain on the critically endangered list.
So here’s a question for you. Who are we humans closest too in our DNA
