The team at the Lilongwe Wildlife Trust prepares to say goodbye to one of their longest-serving residents, Sheila the crocodile. But they have to work out how to catch her first. It’s one of the riskiest releases they have ever attempted. Amanda anesthetizes her through the fence with a pole dart. Torie monitors her while she falls asleep. The team has to immobilize her gigantic jaw and then jump on her to be able to safely tie up her feet. Sheila weighs around 150 kilograms so they use an old paddling pool to carry her to the truck where she is put in a lion crate for her journey to the release site in Thuma Forest Reserve. Once there, a team of scouts has to carry the crocodile another kilometer to the dam where she is going to be set free.
