Matchstick men serve as art.

One remarkable German artist, Wolfgang Stiller has created a project called 'Matchstick Men' which resemble previously lit matches by using long pieces of wood with burned head molds attached to the tip.

Although the design may seem complex, the meaning behind the exhibit is simple -- it's about being worn down by life. Specifically it's the trials of being human and dealing with the everyday aspects that are thrown at us.

The blackened, charred heads signify people being beaten down or "burnt out".

The giant matchsticks take on several different poses in this exhibition. They are standing upwards, lying down scattered across a floor or resting in a rectangular matchbook, which bears a resemblance to a coffin. One of Stiller's works shows the charred heads resting against a wall and protruding from an orange drape-like garment.

Another snapshot portrays the sticks and heads aligned and connected, forming a house. The artist utilizes bamboo for the matchsticks and molds for the face tips. The materials were left over from a film production in China.
