The males roar more enthusiastically at night and their declaration carries five miles along the Luangwa Valley. The youngest lioness, with no cubs to demand her attention, is hunting puku for her pride. Behind her, one of the males makes a rare appearance to help with the hunt. Or so it seems.
Lions are renowned for their night vision. But they've not seen or heard the puku by their side.
His attention lies elsewhere. She's coming into oestrus but she's not ready to be jumped on just yet.
