Rita Moreno has been breaking barriers in Hollywood for decades. Born in Puerto Rico in 1931, Moreno’s early years in the industry were a struggle, as she was predominantly typecast into Hispanic roles. In 1961, however, she landed the part of Anita in “West Side Story,” and took home the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress on account of it.
