Ever tried babysitting underwater? At the Amazonian Manatee Rescue Center in Iquitos, Peru, caretakers look after some of the gentlest giants of the Amazon — orphaned baby manatees.
Each rescued calf arrives weak, frightened, and alone after losing its mother to hunting or habitat destruction. But thanks to the love and dedication of Juan Sanchez Babilonia and his team, these little “sea cows” get a second chance at life.

From bottle-feeding to teaching them how to swim and forage again, every step brings them closer to returning home — the wild rivers of the Amazon.
