Indonesian Volcano Erupts For First Time In 100 Years

THIS footage shows the panic and disruption caused by the eruption of Mount Sinabung in North Sumatra province, Indonesia. The 2,600 metre high volcano, which sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire, had been dormant for almost a century, but has sprang into life in recent years, with activity intensifying this week. More than 20,000 people have been evacuated from the four mile danger zone, with specially set-up camps struggling to deal with the influx of refugees. There have been hundreds of small-to-medium-sized eruptions over the past week, with pyroclastic flows streaming down the volcano's slopes and ash raining down on the area and its inhabitants. Despite the lack of a singular large eruption event, Mount Sinabung's recent volatility is evidence of the dangers of living in the shadow of a volcano.
