The unique conditions of Arabia have created opportunities for the weird and wonderful Oman Garra fish – who’s dull appearance belies their pioneering aspirations. Most of the time they must live in tiny stagnant pools, but flood water creates new channels through the rocks linking pools together. It’s a chance to expand into new territory, but to do so they must become rock climbers, heaving themselves over rapids. It’s a terrible gamble; some fish will find dead ends, leaving them high and dry. But by taking the chance, others will succeed and populate new Wadis. Wadi’s create opportunity, the key to survival in this most hostile terrain.
