The 1989 violent crackdown on protests in and around Tiananmen Square in Beijing has become a symbol of repression under China's communist government . But most citizens living in China know little about the events at Tiananmen Square, due in large part to the country's tight system of censorship. Some users and activists are taking matters into their own hands, though, and trying to circumvent the censors.
