Elena Corchero is a technology artisan, specialised in smart materials and wearables. Her work has earned many international awards, exhibitions and publications. She is a former MIT Media Lab Europe researcher and an alumni of MA Textile Futures from Central Saint Martins in London. She believes in a world where technology should bring back the values which were ironically lost through industrialisation: from reviving craft, to contributing to protecting our ethics and the environment. She argues that we should give meaning to the products we consume if we wish to create a sustainable world by bridging the gap between consumers and producers, and this should be easier than ever given the current state of our technological advances.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
