From Mississippi to the Saharan Desert | Playing For Change Foundation

Playing For Change Foundation presents: "From Mississippi to the Saharan Desert." This short film documents Grammy Award-nominated blues musician Vasti Jackson's journey with percussionist Maya Kyles to the Joudour Sahara Music Program in M'hamid el Ghizlane, Morocco for a music residency in the sand dunes of Taragalte Festival with local Saharan musicians. Two weeks, blues day and night, one massive sandstorm, powerful history lessons on the origin of blues music, and connections made across cultures that go beyond music. 
Vasti then met the residency musicians at Visa For Music African and Middle Eastern music showcase in Rabat, Morocco to perform live with them and recorded a ten-track studio album fusing the Saharan and American styles of music. Vasti is producing the album and is expected to wrap up production in the coming months.

Playing For Change (PFC) is a movement created to inspire and connect the world through music, born from the shared belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. The primary focus of PFC is to record and film musicians performing in their natural environments and combine their talents and cultural power in innovative videos called Songs Around The World. Creating these videos motivated PFC to form the Playing For Change Band—a tangible, traveling representation of its mission, featuring musicians met along their journey; and establish the Playing For Change Foundation—a separate 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to building music and art schools for children around the world.
