France has defied pressure from the United States and passed a law taxing global tech giants and many of the world's biggest internet companies. The changes voted through by the French Parliament have faced heavy criticism in the US and from US President Donald Trump. The White House says they unfairly target American companies and has threatened Paris with punitive trade measures. Facebook, Apple, Google and Amazon are among the 30 companies affected. President Trump has ordered an investigation.
