This is the highlights of the press conference by President of the EU Council Charles Michel and the EC President Ursula von der Leyen.

The European Heads of State or Government met on Thursday 12 December 2019 in Brussels to discuss mainly EU’s action against climate change and the multiannual financial framework (MFF) — the EU's long-term budget. This was the first EU Summit attended by Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, since the start of the mandate of the new College.


After intensive discussions, Member States reached a deal on the target of achieving climate neutrality by 2050. President von der Leyen presented on Wednesday 11 December 2019 her European Green Deal – a roadmap for making the EU's economy sustainable by turning climate and environmental challenges into opportunities across all policy areas and making the transition just and inclusive for all.
